First, you need an existing company with its own shipping department and then you need to sell their products that actually they will ship themselves. You can sell anything you can imagine from toys through flowers to guns. We can find a great number of companies doing this kind of business.
You have two option to participate in the drop ship business. You can be either the company that actually does the shipping or you can be the one that is looking for people willing to buy the products. Usually the shipping costs the same to any address and in any quantity but sometimes it is possible the get a discount for bigger amount of order. The most important is to be able to sell the product at a higher price than its cost and shipment all together that is how a drop ship business can be profitable.
There are some companies trying to spread their brand name by presenting themselves in the shipping information as the original shipper. This way they look after their own interest and at the same time ensure a constant business for the original shipping company. However, only a few companies do this, it is not a wide spread practise yet. There is another type of drop shipping but it is disputed to be real drop shipping or not. Some companies order merchandise and after receiving it, they repackage them. The new package shows their own logo or the name of the company and this way they seem to be the original shipper. Even though it costs more both money and time it is still worth for the company who buys, repackages and then sells the product.
